Military Clothing – Everyone Loves a Man in Uniform
Uniforms and military clothing has always had a certain clichéd appeal – epitomized by Richard Gere in An Officer and a Gentleman

Military clothing and sex appeal
A poll in the UK last year revealed that nurses and fireman were voted the sexiest people in uniforms. Closely following fireman were men who donned military clothing – 28 % of women voted soldiers as their ultimate fantasy. Milkmen came last in the poll. Perhaps the film an Officer and a Gentleman is party to blame for the penchant for military clothing. Ever since Richard Gere wore a uniform and swept Deborah Winger off her feet, women all over the world swooned. It has become an iconic moment in film history and there are countless films that feature men in military clothing and uniforms that have helped fire the sexy image.

Army recruitment
But a recent story revealed that associating sexiness with military clothing and uniforms can help recruitment for the US Army. The army has launched many advertising campaigns targeted at young men to join the all-voluntary branch of military service in America. In previous campaigns, the army had offered free college education and financial incentives but none of these were felt to work – especially in times of war.

Women in military clothing
Male soldiers are sought after in times of combat and the bottom line is for all advertising is that sex sells. Using sexy women in military clothing is considered to be a simple but effective strategy. It isn’t however considered to be very moral to exploit men barely out of their teens. It’s been stated that military clothing combined with weapons makes The Army susceptible to ‘Freudian interpretations’. Equating war with sex is clearly a dangerous and misguided concept.

A man in uniform
But it is well documented that women and gay men love a man in uniform – including military clothing. And the sultry charms of Richard Gere in an Officer and a Gentleman can’t be blamed entirely. Now, there is a whole world of online uniform dating that puts uniformed singles in touch with like-minded men and women in uniform looking for love. Here, singles looking for love post photos of themselves in their military clothing and gear. The Uniform Dating site has been bombarded by civilians all looking for that special someone who wears military clothing or other kinds of uniform – whether it is the armed forces, police, health or fire services.

There are also specialist military single sites for people in the army and navy. Some people find that the military clothing can put people off, and finding a partner who understands or appreciates military life can be difficult.
