Leder-Gris is essentially a waterproof wax solution for boots for really tough wet conditions. This original wax-oil is a mixture of 70% wax and 30% oil, so very high oil content

The moment its applied it provides waterproof for your military boot, and as time moves on the oil goes deeper into the leather and helps maintains the leathers suppleness - this is the common reason the leather starts to crack is when the leather is dry and has relatively no oil content left. The wax content mostly stays next to the surface which then provides the water repellency 

As with all treatments, constant use of Leder-Gris wax oil may darken the appearance of your boot, but used in conjecture with with Leder-Glos will help sustain water repellency and shine of the surface of the boot
