This Silva Compass Militaire is an advanced compass designed with the military in mind, as it features the mils measurement on the inside of the dial. It does still provide graduation in degrees too, so is what is referred to as 6400/360

With its magnifying lens and rubber feet for great “stickiness” whilst laid flat on a map or case it really is great for precision map reading. Also included at the front is a luminous tritium compound that is activated by light and then remains light for up to 4 hours through the night

Silva class this Expedition 4 Compass Militaire as a “full-size” base plate and is designed for experienced users boasting mm and inches measurements as well as ratios from 1:25k, 1:40k and 1:50k to measures longer distances. Silva advertise this compass as having most of the functionality of a GPS

Finished with a detachable lanyard it’s a great companion to have whilst away in the field or just touring the fells with your OS map
