Description
The Durham Light Infantry (DLI) holds a rich and storied history within the annals of the British Army. Established in 1881 as part of the Childers Reforms, the regiment was formed through the merger of several local militia and volunteer units from County Durham. From its inception, the DLI played a vital role in various conflicts and campaigns, both at home and abroad.
After the war, the DLI continued to serve with distinction, deploying to various trouble spots around the world during the post-colonial era. However, like many regiments, it faced restructuring and amalgamation as part of the broader changes within the British Army. In 1968, the Durham Light Infantry was amalgamated with other regiments to form the Light Infantry Regiment.
Despite its amalgamation, the Durham Light Infantry's legacy lives on through the memories of its soldiers and the communities it served. The Bullion Blazer Badge serves as a poignant reminder of this rich history, honouring the regiment's contributions and sacrifices in defence of freedom and justice.
