The only Irish infantry regiment in the British Army, the Royal Irish Regiment was founded in 1992 through the amalgamation of the Royal Irish Rangers and the Ulster Defence Regiment 

Originally formed by Zachariah Tiffin in 1689 in Enniskillen, the Royal Irish regiment epitomises the valour and courage of the Irish and their motto Faugh A Ballagh derived from the Gaelic phrase for Clear the Way successfully transfers their position in combat spear heading most attacks
